Enhanced BR+E Resources & the Web-based Application

BR+E logo

Based on past experiences and a recently completed Operational Review, it was determined that the existing business survey and database resources needed to be reviewed and enhanced.  The BR+E Survey has now been revised, and a new BR+E web-based application has been created to assist communities in data entry, storage and analysis.

Communities are now able to access a wide range of BR+E resources and tools through the Internet. These resources will allow communities to identify more effectively their business needs and opportunities, and to develop actions and support initiatives that foster the growth of existing businesses.

BR+E resources and promotional materials are available for download (below in PDF format) in both official languages, and include:

  • BR+E Resource ManualBR+E Resources Manual (843.2 KB) containing over 100 pages that outline the human resources needed for a project, describe the four stages of BR+E with steps to follow in each stage, and provide sample forms, letters and meeting formats that can be easily adapted for community needs; includes an evaluation guide to measure changes in economic well-being of a community after a BR+E process;
  • Promotion and Training Video that is divided into several sections and used to promote BR+E in communities, outline project components for community leaders, and augment volunteer training;
  • Comprehensive Business Survey with questions that allow communities to focus on different business sectors (Farming/Agriculture, Manufacturing, Mining, Natural Resources, Retail/Service Industry, Tourism) and identify needs and issues of local businesses;
  • Web-based application that analyzes the data from the community surveys and allows for comparison of community results to aggregated provincial data;
  • Promotional Materials such as brochures to introduce BR+E to communities, and pens, pins and other resources to show your appreciation to volunteers and participating businesses;
  • Training Workshops and Information Sessions for community members, to ensure people have an understanding of the BR+E concept and the knowledge to effectively coordinate and implement projects; and
  • RED-BR+E Funding - Under the Rural Economic Development (RED) Funding Programhttp://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/rural/red/red_creating.htm, a specific application form has been developed for BR+E projects to facilitate efficient processing and approval of BR+E project funding. Download the application document by clicking here.RED - BR+E Supplement application (264.5 KB) For assistance with completing this funding application, please contact Regional Team staff in your area, or George Ferreira, Community Economic Development Specialistmailto:karen.fischer@ontario.ca.
