| What tools are available to assist community leaders to champion the cause of downtown revitalization? Which communities have been successful in their efforts - what approaches have they employed and which have worked or not worked? How can you determine the key factors, internal and external, past and present, that have impacted your downtown? How can you utilize this knowledge to mobilize the community to implement a successful revitalization strategy? The Ontario government has developed this Downtown Revitalization Web Resource to help answer these and other questions to bringing new life back into Ontario's downtowns. This initiative has tapped into a tangible concern and is providing this resource as a means of assisting Ontario's downtowns to become strong economic generators, and social and cultural focal points in our communities. Input from communities in January, 2002 and delegates at the Economic Developers Council of Ontario conference in February, 2002 strongly indicates that Ontarians recognize and appreciate the value of their downtown areas and want to play a proactive role in ensuring their future viability. The timing seems right for renewed action. The Getting Started Document (also available in PDF - 431 KB) provides communities with invaluable information, and diagnostic tools to launch a successful revitalization process.
