CME SMART Program

The Government of Ontario, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) has created the SMART Program to help small and medium-sized manufacturers in Ontario improve their productivity so they can compete more effectively in the global economy.

Innovation Demonstration Fund

The Innovation Demonstration Fund (IDF) is a discretionary, non-entitlement funding program administered by the Ministry of Research and Innovation that focuses on the commercialization and initial demonstration of globally competitive, innovative technologies, processes and/or products.

The objective of the IDF is to help companies in their efforts to commercialize innovative technologies in Ontario.

Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) - National Research Council

NRC-IRAP provides Canadian SMEs with technological expertise and advice, financial assistance for research and development activities, networking and partnerships.

You are eligible if:

  • Your business is incorporated and profit-oriented
  • Your enterprise has fewer than 500 employees
  • You have the desire to enhance the innovation capability of your company

Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Program

The SR&ED program provides tax incentives to Canadian businesses that conduct SR&ED in Canada that will lead to new, improved, or technologically advanced products or processes.

Funding is in the form of a 20-35% tax refund or credit on qualified current SR&ED expenditures and your capital SR&ED expenditures. Tax credits that can be used to offset the amount of tax you owe or refunds of tax credits to individual or small companies.
